SUMMARY
Utilize transportation management system (TMS) to coordinate and plan inbound, outbound, direct-ship, and backhaul shipments. Assure all loads are tendered in a timely manner so that all purchase and sales orders will be delivered. Resolve and/or escalate when orders are not confirmed as tendered. Coordinate with Purchasing, Operations, and Accounting teams to ensure purchase orders are moving through the system during creation, change, receipt, and settlement. Monitor data concerning routing locations, carrier rates, vendor allowances, etc.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Logistics Planning and Analysis
- Manage the transportation activities to and from vendor, branch, or customer.
- Ensure managed orders are tendered to carriers in a timely manner; Coordinate and negotiate rates with carriers when routed orders are not confirmed; and, Retender managed orders when carriers reject or do not respond to loads.
- Directly responsible to ensure data integrity throughout TMS.
- Analyze and propose ideal shipping methods, routing or carriers to meet necessary parameters, specifications and costs
- Analyze and update current and possible lanes for bid to carriers.
- Analyze the backhaul capabilities of the existing company fleet, and coordinate the efforts of the buyers, suppliers, and operations managers without disturbing service to customers.
- Audit invoices by generating documents for TMS carrier invoicing to accounting; to bill the company at the existing freight rate, so the savings may be sheltered properly by partnering and communicating with the Buyers at each branch.
- Create reports and metrics to Supervisor and Management related to the TMS program
- Negotiate rates and service commitments with carriers, in order to assure the best possible service at the most reasonable rates.
- Analyze and develop an understanding of buying patterns to analyze vendors and recommend consolidations of less-than-truckload (LTL) shipments, from multiple suppliers to full truckload shipments.
- Manage logistical data in order to evaluate carriers in terms of service, rates, claims, and responsiveness to the company’s needs and requests.
- Evaluate ERP datasets and give feedback to other departments for revisions or completion.
- Analyze opportunities and suggest solutions for cost improvement to top management
- Coordinate freight claim preparation as required and make recommendations for settlement.
- Develop and implement new company business processes related to TMS, and uphold Company Best Practices and Work Processes.
- Other duties as assigned to reach Company goals.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
- Prior Logistics and Dispatch work experience, minimum 2-5 years is a must.
- Must have basic knowledge concerning Supply Chain and Logistics.
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from accredited college or university preferred, but not required and/or combination of education and experience
- Should be organized, as well as detail- and results-oriented.
- Able to take on additional responsibilities as needed as well as determine and manage priorities with minimal guidance.
- Must be able to use time productively, efficiently, and meet challenging work goals. Project management skills a plus.
- Must be a self-starter, takes initiative, with ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
- Must be able to request help when further support is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret key performance indictors (KPI) reports and technical data spreadsheets. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from other departments, carriers, or other members of the business community. Ability to effectively present information to employees, management, and/or business partners.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to calculate rebates, cost-savings, cost of goods sold, etc., using concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define and resolve problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an inconsistent data and further analyze validity.
COMPUTER SKILLS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic computer experience with Windows, including Outlook, Excel, and Word, as well as internet applications. Prior experience with ERP and TMS systems is a plus.
